Do you plan a kite trip in Sri Lanka? Once you book a flight to Colombo, the only important detail to decide is the place to stay : resort, hotel, villa… Transport to Kalpityia, rent a tuk-tuk, get to a bank for cash – everything comes next. So how to choose where to stay? Here is our approach:
The ProRider – George has been wintering in Sri Lanka’s kite-spot near Kalpityia since 2014. We build friendships and we trust our acquaintances there. This is the reason why since the time we started visiting that exotic country every year we return we feel more at home. Friends that we’ve met there receive us like we are family. The new friends that we make are always waiting for our return and always happy to see us.
Today the Kalpitiya lagoon is a notorious place for kiting, so more and more accommodation-opportunities are offered to the curious kiters of the world. Our good friends are offering us better choices where to stay on better prices that you cannot find elsewhere.
Here follows a list of recommendations issued from our experience there, that we hope every adventurer will find his place of dream and rest and holiday:
The “Serene Chalets” in Kalpitiya village
When we go to Sri Lanka, even if for a short period, we would like to feel the place like it is home. Our choice of accommodation is simple: we look for a room, bathroom & WC of-cores, kitchen and living room. So if we do not want to go for a restaurant, we could prepare something home after an intense kiting day. This is why, we like theSerene Chalets.
Equally, close to the lagoon and the city, it offers us all the basics from Sri Lanka expected experience: coconut-tree garden, lagoon view, sandy feet and friendly hosts.
7 cabanas with double beds;
Indoor bathroom;
Fan offering fresh air when needed;
Private veranda perfect for relaxing.
The simple yet breezy tropical cabanas are all part of the coconut-tree garden. Circling the common space and kitchen, the cabanas are far enough if you need some privacy.
The spirit is Sri Lankan and the view is beautiful!

The “Wind Beach Resort” in Kudawa city
For our friends who prefer a more comfort and luxurious type of holiday, we think of this exceptional place that was just built: the Wind Beach Resort.
At the end of Kudawa city and just before the entrance of the lagoon – it is very close to the kite-spot and the ocean-beach.
Hotel rooms with view over the ocean &
5 villas with view over a lagoon;
Pool & Jacuzzi;
Air-conditioning, TV, small fridge in every room;
Restaurant on the ground floor offering exquisite cuisine;
Bar & lounge on the top floor of the hotel gives a breath taking view over the ocean, lagoons and whole Kalpitiya area… far to the Puttalam lagoon.
The Resort is offering an “all-inclusive” option including meals in the price of the room, also access to all the commodities in the complex. For Christmas and New-Year’s eve’ they offer an in-house dinner with some good food, good mood and good vibes!
