WHAT IS KITE-BOARDING?
This is a water sport that involves moving on water with a board and a kite while using wind traction. As famous as extreme, It is a sport in continuous progress, developing new technologies every year, designed to ensure the safety and performance of the rider. It can be practiced on any water surface that allows it (sea or lake). Attention! There should not be any obstacles in the area (rocks, trees, buildings, high voltage wires etc.)
WHAT IS THE DURATION OF A COURSE?
If you want to learn to kite, the complete kite-boarding course takes an average of 4-5 days. Our aim is to accumulate 12 hours of practice. However the exact duration depends mostly on the weather conditions, especially the wind forecast. So it can happen that course days are postponed in the absence of favorable conditions, therefore, not to be consecutive.
WHERE IS THE COURSE HAPPENING?
Wherever the wind blows, we go whether to the Black Sea, a lake near Bucharest or various locations abroad (check our “Adventure Trips” section for more destinations). The PRORIDER Kite-school frequently organizes camps for learning and/or improving kite-boarding in locations recognized for the conditions that are favourable to this sport.
WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE?
The course is divided into several modules:
Start-up – Get familiar with the equipment and find out how to use it, get familiar with common terms and language through sport-specific signs, learn to control a high-powered foil kite (trainer);
Kite Control – Learn to launch a kite and land it with an assistant, learn how to control a kite with inflatable depower, use safety systems, and learn how to re-launch a kite in water or on land;
Body dragging / tugging upwind – Learn to use the force of the kite to move into the water, get the rules of priority, practice the plate recovery method by moving it against the wind;
Water-start – You already have full control over the kite and you are not a danger to those around you. In this final part, you learn how to get up on the board in the water, how to keep the line as far as you can, how to correct your position and to maintain a controlled movement.
Throughout our collaboration, we provide you with complete equipment and related explanations, including photo-video analyzes of the steps you take. At the end of the course you will be certified according to the IKO standards.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE A COURSE?
Kite-boarding is a sport dedicated to all people, regardless of age, who do not require preliminary knowledge, not even swimming. All you need to do is to be determined and ready to acquire new skills.
HOW DO I COME TO CLASS?
You should be properly dressed for entering the water (bathing suit, licra & shorts or neoprene, sun glasses) and equipped with a cap, a towel, a bottle of drinking water and a sun cream. All the rest we provide.
WHAT WOULD YOU KNOW AFTER THE COURSE?
As a beginning you discover the basics how to kite. You will know how to ride safely with a kite and a board. You will know how to appreciate the wind and choose the right equipment properly.
With practice and more experience, we offer some more advanced classes: how to jump while kiting for example. When you are ready, we can teach you some tricks.
